National Careers Week 2020

Across the school, we have been promoting aspirational careers as part of National Careers Week.

National Careers Week (NCW) is a celebration of careers guidance across schools and colleges in the UK with the aim of providing a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people leaving education.

By linking education with the world of employment, students get an important insight to the future of work and further learning. Better informed students result in better decision making.

Our KS2 students enjoyed exploring different industry sectors and were encouraged to start thinking about what skills they have and want to develop to achieve their future ambitions!

All students from year 7 to 11 have now been given access to Start – a free and comprehensive digital platform which aims to simplify and improve careers guidance in schools.

The platform includes structured and progressive activities which cater for all students, helping them to make more informed decisions about future study and career options at the right time and in good time.

Our letter to parents/carers, explaining more about Start, can be viewed here.

To start using the platform, go to www.startprofile.com.

Our year 10 students also used National Careers Week to reflect on their experience at What Career? Live and What University? Live the previous week and to prepare for their work experience placements taking place the following week – lots of careers related activity for them at the moment!

Finally, we have also taken the opportunity to revamp our careers resource library, which boasts a wide selection of materials for students to read about a variety of different future career pathways and includes information on both apprentices and universities. All students are encouraged to explore the resources and are welcome to take any home. Their mentors will also signpost them to particular resources based on their expressed interests.
