Science Sampling in the park…

In science Year 8 & 9 students have been learning about Field Investigations where ecologists study the distribution of living organisms in habitats to find out how healthy it is. They use many different sampling methods to provide quantitative data which is then analysed.

Students were taken to the park to carry out their own sampling methods to gather data on the organisms they find in the park. They used quadrats and placed them on the ground to look at the plants or slow-moving animals within them. They gathered this data from the  experiment and returned back to class to review and discuss their findings.
